The first All Hands event of 2024 took place on 7 and 8 March and it exceeded all our expectations.

It was a pleasure to attend the training sessions given by the employees themselves, both from WATA Factory and from q.beyond ibérica. We were able to discover the master in each of us and also the fact that there is a lot of talent in our employees.

All Hands MARCH 2024

To start the day off right, our two Hungarian colleagues prepared an authentic traditional Hungarian breakfast. It all tasted wonderful, but the real winner of the morning was the téliszalámi – Hungarian for “winter salami” – a Hungarian salami made from Mangalica pork and spices: white pepper, allspice and others – a delight!!

All Hands MARCH 2024

Then we started with the first training session. Our colleague Eva led the presentation “Introduction to accessibility, implementation and testing in a real project”, followed by Victor who joined her to guide us through the more practical part. This training gave us a very comprehensive overview of how to approach accessibility in real-life project development, focussing on effective implementation, testing and the importance of creating accessible experiences for all users.

After a coffee break, it was Antonio’s turn to present his workshop “Monitoring your systems with Datadog”, in which strategies and best practices for optimising system performance and reliability with Datadog were discussed.

All Hands March 2024

We interrupted the training flow and went together to a nearby restaurant where we savoured the best of Jerez gastronomy. Once again, we took the opportunity to get to know each other better and find out who our colleagues are outside the office. This atmosphere provided the perfect setting to share the ideas and knowledge acquired in the morning in a relaxed way among all colleagues.

Upon our return, it was our designer Raquel’s turn to open her workshop “Decoding Figma: guide for non-designers”. She offered a practical introduction to Figma with a focus on how to use the platform to collaborate effectively on design projects, even without previous design experience.

As is usual for all All Hands, we use the end of the traianings to start our departmental meetings. As part of the hybrid model, we hold these meetings online when we are working from home. However, there is nothing better than putting the screens aside from time to time and meeting in person. This dynamic is very enriching.

All Hands March 2024

We ended the day informally by sitting together, having a drink and chatting quietly. These moments together are not only fun, but also strengthen us as a team, which is essential for good cooperation.

The next day, after a breakfast full of Andalusian flavours that gave us energy to get started, it was time for the first training session of the morning: “Introduction to Cypress”, held by Mario. In this presentation, we learnt about test automation in web application development. Mario emphasised how to set it up, how to write effective tests and how to integrate it with other development processes. It was a very interesting and useful talk that made us all want to put what we learnt into practice.

All Hands March 2024
All Hands March 2024

We then attended the workshop “Code analysers for the winners” led by Carlos. Our PHP Tech Lead guided us through various code analysis tools and techniques that can help improve code quality, efficiency and maintainability in software development projects.

All Hands March 2024

The afternoon ended with a well-deserved lunch at our facilities, where we shared our impressions and reflections on what we had learnt as a team. Without a doubt, this was the perfect end to the day and we said goodbye until the next All Hands.

We would like to thank all the speakers for making this event possible and sharing their incredible talent and experience with the rest of our colleagues. We are so grateful for the time and energy they invested to help us learn and grow together as a team.

We are already looking forward to the next All Hands event in June! After this All Hands event, the bar is set very high.

On the 14th and 15th of December, we immersed ourselves in a festive All Hands event at WATA Factory, embracing the holiday spirit.

It was a real pleasure to have the presence of Carla Urrea Stabile, software engineer and Senior Developer Advocate at Auth0 by Okta, who guided us on an exciting journey through the world of Ruby on Rails.

All Hands diciembre 2024: Ruby on Rails en un ambiente navideño.

To kickstart the day, we indulged in an authentic Romanian breakfast that awakened our senses with a fascinating array of flavors. We savored a diverse selection ranging from various pâtés, jams and smoked foods. A very complete breakfast that immersed us completely in the culinary richness of Romania.

Then, Carla Urrea started her session “Introduction to Ruby on Rails”, unraveling the structure of projects in this environment and we had the opportunity to create a demo application in real time.

Eager to delve deeper, we attended Carla’s masterful talk on “Implementing Authentication and Authorization in a Ruby on Rails web application with Auth0.” Carla delved into the significance of authentication and authorization in safeguarding security and privacy within Ruby on Rails applications.

All Hands December 2023: Ruby on Rails in a Christmas setting.

After nourishing our minds, a Christmas lunch awaited us to nourish our stomachs. It became the perfect setting for the ideas and knowledge acquired during the morning to flow naturally among all the colleagues. Afterwards, we went to celebrate Christmas and enjoy together as a team.

The next day, after an Andalusian breakfast that filled us with vitality for the day, it was time for the new colleagues to introduce themselves to the rest of the team.

Then came the moment to immerse ourselves in WATA Factory’s annual summary analysis. Under Germán’s guidance, we embarked on a journey that reviewed our successes, achievements and areas for improvement, providing a comprehensive and detailed vision of our progress as a team.

All Hands December 2023: Ruby on Rails in a Christmas setting.

It was at that moment when we were surprised by the unexpected appearance of Their Majesties, the Three Wise Men. They were the ones in charge of carrying out the Secret Santa gift exchange and adding a special spark to the atmosphere. With their presence, the gift giving was even more exciting and magical for everyone.

All Hands December 2023: Ruby on Rails in a Christmas setting.

After a break for a Christmas coffee, our faces still adorned with smiles, we proceeded with departmental strategic meetings. We united ideas and approaches to drive our collaborative work forward across each of the projects.

Meanwhile, in parallel, we evaluated the progress of q.beyond ibérica during its first year, which ends this December. Together, we analyze how in this time, q.beyond ibérica has excelled in bringing leading knowledge and methodologies from Germany to southern Spain. This achievement marks a promising path, fueling our expectations for the future in the sector.

All Hands December 2023: Ruby on Rails in a Christmas setting.

The afternoon culminated with a well-deserved lunch at Mesón Suárez, a place that has become our traditional stop to enjoy the best of local cuisine. The day concluded with a closing session where we shared reflections before saying goodbye.

In summary, the December 2023 All Hands was once again an opportunity to learn, connect and grow as a team. We thank all the participants for making this event possible and look forward to the next All Hands event in March, the first in 2024.

WATA Factory experiences the future of programming at our All Hands event with a quantum computing workshop led by Paco Martín (IBM).

On the 8th and 9th of June we celebrated the 4th WATA Factory All Hands event. For this occasion, we addressed the topic of quantum programming by the expert Paco Martin (IBM), who visited us from New York to give talks and lead a workshop.

Following our tradition of organising themed breakfasts according to different regions, we started the day with a Catalan breakfast. Our colleague briefly explained how to prepare “pà amb tomàquet” and the breakfast was accompanied by other typical products such as “fuet”, “cacaolat” or “mel i mató”.

After breakfast, the speaker Paco Martín gave an extensive and detailed presentation in which we were able to understand the fundamental aspects of quantum programming, its current state, and future projections and trends.

Finally, we were able to put into practice the knowledge acquired through the workshops and get into the basics of quantum programming.

After the first session of the workshop, the whole team went to a restaurant near the facilities, where we tasted local dishes in a cosy atmosphere. After lunch, we continued with the second session.

The first day ended with a networking meeting where drinks and snacks for the participants were kindly provided by WATA Factory. Some colleagues from the team continued the celebration in an Irish pub in the heart of Jerez.

 The second day began with our typical Andalusian breakfast, giving way to a more relaxed day than the previous one.

During the morning of the second day, Paco Martín highlighted the more practical use of quantum computers in today’s world. Throughout this third session, we continued with more advanced concepts that allowed us to go deeper into quantum programming.

The event wrapped up with a meal featuring local flavours at the WATA Factory facilities.

Here are a few more moments from the event:
